Hi! It's me, Jocelyn, today. Fancy that. I decided I'd take a day after all! :)
The Family: A Proclamation to The World teaches us that "Parents have a sacred duty to rear their children in love and righteousness, to provide for their physical and spiritual needs, to teach them to love and serve one another, to observe the commandments of God and to be law-abiding citizens wherever they live."
My family and I spotted this sign during our drive through the beautiful Pennsylvania countryside on Saturday. We also spotted lots of sweet Amish families out for a ride in their buggies.
I love the Amish and Mennonite people who I have come to know around here. They are such an example to me of love, service, sacrifice, hard work, and humility. They really seem to understand what it means to be a family.
Although there are no people in this photo, when I look at this sign, I see an entire family working together to run their family business and provide for their needs. I'm sure that the children "fetch" the eggs each morning, and run to get mother when someone comes to make a purchase. And this is only a small money-maker for them. The running of the farm, the daily chores, care of the animals, tending the family garden, and the food processing are all jobs that they do together.
The note about "no Sunday sales" is but a small detail that makes it clear to me that this family understands what was meant by our church leaders when they said, "Parents have a sacred duty to rear their children in love and righteousness"...and to teach them "to observe the commandments of God."
The sign before it actually caught my husband's eye first and made us both chuckle. It said, "Goat Milk...For Sale...No Sunday Sales." In a world like the one in which we live, this sweet sign is a welcome sight, and a reminder that there are other families out there like us, who believe in teaching children to obey God's laws. Keep an eye out for them, and you might notice them more often, and have more opportunities to learn from and strengthen each other.
