Successful marriages & families

"Successful marriages and families are established and maintained on principles of faith, prayer, repentance, forgiveness, respect, love, compassion, work, and wholesome recreational activities."  This line in The Family: A Proclamation to the World outlines key elements that create harmony in the home.

We covered them more in-depth in our previous round of Family Proclamation lessons.  For this 5-Minute Family Proclamation lesson, we wanted to focus on the "wholesome recreational activities" part.

Our family has a favorite game that we like to play together.  It's actually my favorite game from childhood called "Enchanted Forest."  Since we like to play it so much, I thought it would be fun to make personalized game pieces for each family member, like I've seen online.

With the weather, and all the extra time we've had to spend together at home as a family this winter, we've actually played lots of board games.  It's a good opportunity to learn cooperation, to laugh, relax, and kick back!  Playing together is so important in a family.  Sometimes we forget to play.  During those times, we laugh less and stress rises.  The Lord knows that we need balance in all things, and I am thankful that he has included this bit of advice to families: Don't forget to have fun together!!

  1. I love that you made your own board pieces. They're so cute. I'm so glad the Proclamation reminds us about wholesome family recreation, it's so easy to overlook it, but it's so essential.
