Scarlett discovered this beautiful white iris in our front yard yesterday.
It is quite the phenomenon, because all of the irises that we planted are purple, and they've been that way for two growing seasons. Now, mysteriously, this white one has appeared. It is brilliant, don't you think?
It got me thinking about being different. Do you ever feel different? Do you ever feel like you "stick out"? I admit that sometimes I do. But what this flower reminded me of today is that not only is it ok to stand out, to be daringly different than the crowd, to be yourself, but it is wise to "own" the beauty that makes us different, to be thankful for it, to rejoice in it.
God, in his wisdom, has made each one of us unique for a wise and glorious purpose.
The best journey ever is to discovery what that purpose is...
I love iris' and this post is WONDERFUL (as usual)
ReplyDeleteits always great to be unique. That's what makes us special.
ReplyDeleteLove the photo and the post that accompanies it.
ReplyDeleteThe message, as always, is best of all.
=)
I had a similar discussion last week with another mom at the Special Olympics. I was so grateful to spend the day with kids who are amazing and strong and should be celebrated for being different.
ReplyDeleteAs Sadie got out of the car to go to school today I whispered in her ear,"You're amazing and don't let anyone tell you differently. Trust your heart, it's a good one." I hope all my kids celebrate their differences.
You are always so good in your analogies;) Makes me think of YW lesson. And yes-- I am very different, but I love that uniqueness and frankly, I get annoyed if I flow with the crowd and don't stand out. Ha!
ReplyDeleteSo very true.
ReplyDeleteAll too often we really do want to be the purple iris and forget that as the white one we are beautiful and amazing. The Lord in his infinate wisdom has created us this way. We really should take more time to appreciate our uniqueness.
What a great reminder.
good lesson...
ReplyDeleteHow true! Beautiful photograph and perfect-for-today lesson. :-)
ReplyDeleteThe picture of the Iris is awesome. I liked the comparison with being different. Words of wisdom to ponder upon. I really enjoyed this post.
ReplyDeleteBlessings to you!
Too true! And what gorgeous flowers. Our transplanted irises didn't survive the move... next year, I guess :)
ReplyDeleteI love that picture. Thank you. It immediately inspired a poem for me. Poetry is kinda new for me but this really did the trick of making the words come. I linked back to this post. I hope that's okay.

I love this post! Thank you for sharing. The picture is GORGEOUS :) And I've always felt like the "oddball", but the older I get, I'm starting to embrace it a bit more.
ReplyDeleteThank you for these lovely thoughts. It is a beautiful journey to discover who we are meant to be. I needed this reminder!
ReplyDeleteThanks for this beautiful post. I know I'm sometimes afraid to embrace my differences, because sameness is more comfortable - but I think greatness only comes outside of that comfort zone.
ReplyDeleteAwww! I love those iris! What a beautiful thing to have near your home!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the insight!
