Make Your Own Postcards (Giveaway)

Asha Paper Doll Postcards (set of 3)

Sometimes all you need is a little note to let someone know that you are thinking of them.  My children's former nursery leader mailed them postcards every time she went on vacation.  They loved receiving these little notes in the mail and looking at the cool pictures on the back.

Did you know that you can use just about anything to make your own postcards?
I've received postcards that were cut out of cereal boxes.  You can recycle greeting cards that you've received by cutting off the front which is usually a perfect weight and dimension to be used as a postcard.  You can also print off photos onto card stock to send as a post card.  It's easy, and let's face it, sometimes all you really wanted to say was "I miss you.  I'm thinking of you.  And I love you," anyway!

Today, you have an opportunity to win this set of three Paper Doll Postcards
from the Etsy shop Amanda May.

This idea is so sweet.  Wouldn't you love to send a postcard like this to some dear child?
With a little help from Mom and Dad, they can cut these paper dolls out, making this card a double treasure!  What a fantastic idea!

  1. I'm not crafty at all (understatement of the year), but I've definitely made postcards for my grandkids before, using unlined index cards and stickers. Pretty lame, but they like them because I pick stickers and colors I know they'll enjoy.

Not sure an adult wouldn't think I'd lost my marbles, though!

  2. One of the fun ways that I have made post cards is from paint chips. I know most of them are small, but I did find some one time that were post card size. Following is a post on my own blog about my paperdolls. I am so excited I did not even know about these paper doll cards that you show. I would love to have some to add to my collections. "One of my most enjoyable things to do as a child was to play with paper dolls. I often designed my dolls wardrobes. I would put the doll up to a window or glass door cover them with paper and then design the clothes right on top of them. I could trace around the dolls and make anything my imagination could dream up. I colored them with crayons, colored pencils or painted them with water colors. I would even glue on a sequin, a bead or some other embellishment here and there. I wish I had some of my creations now, but alas those have been gone for years. I do still have a sizable collection of paper dolls and paper doll books that are uncut. I take them out now and then just to look through them and I remember the days of my childhood and what joy they brought. Sometimes I still have the urge to tape a doll to a window and give her a new outfit or two."

  3. I mailed one of the most important letters of my life today.

I also have made post cards out of discarded Christmas display items in a department store, they were taking down their display and so many things were going into the trash. I simply asked if I could have some of the throw aways. They said yes take all you want. Beautiful card stock weight, in wonderful colors. I had fun cutting post cards for days.

  11. We once cleaned up and updated our home office. There were so many things that we made post cards from. The dividers that go in binders turned out great, some are heavier than others, so many colors and some with graphics on them. We were entering a lot of sweepstakes at the time so the post cards really came in handy. Construction paper, even thin plastic place mats. Mens shirts often have a cardstock weight insert in them, I have used those for post cards too.

  12. Old and tattered file folders or hanging files still have much usable space large enough for postcards and they are often in different colors, the darker ones would just need a label. Phone Directory covers, even has the name of your town on them, just need a label again. I have often used Calendar pages, the picture side, and the Calendar cover is usually heavier and makes nice post cards too.

  13. I once made post cards from a Calendar that had a smaller print of each month on the back of the calendar made with heavier stock then the pages. I cut out the appropriate month and glued it to something else, circled the date of the birthday of the recipiant and made my own birthday post cards.

  14. I know this is about post cards and not really about paper dolls, but just had to share this idea. I once was given a pattern book you know the big ones in a fabric store. I had so many "paper" dolls, all in different kinds of clothes, even costumes. I loved it so much, I have even done that for my granddaughter, a lot of cutting, but oh what fun.
