I guess Elder Bednar was right when he suggested that to make a great Family Home Evening, you don't really need any fancy pre-produced lesson print-outs. You just need to bear testimony...and it helps to know the scriptures and have an active imagination.
My husband sure proved this last night.
Our original plan for FHE didn't work out, so in a matter of minutes I watched him discretely gathering items from around the room that you see displayed here. He proceeded to put on a "play" of first Nephi for us. It produced quite a few belly laughs and the kids were just eating it up. I restrained myself from running to get my camera as long as I possibly could, and then I just couldn't take it any longer. I just had to take some pictures and share them with you.
So enjoy!
You've just gotta love good Daddies!
(No, this post does not count as your five pages for today...Nice try. Now go read!)

Love it! How grateful I am for a good Daddy in our home too! It truly is a blessing!
ReplyDeleteThat is the best! Way to use the resources you already have.
ReplyDeleteOne disclaimer: I guess we should've used our Book of Mormon paper dolls, but it happened so quickly that he just used toys that were on the floor around us! Next time...
ReplyDeleteWow that was so cute I love when dad get idea like that, they save the day and stick in your children head forever. I know a lot of my dad's idea like that did.
ReplyDeleteAhhh, the classic "Dog for dinner" move...gotta love it! :)
ReplyDeleteI love having big boys as Dad's...they really know how to make learning fun. AND your kids will remember the lesson they learned from FHE. (hope there was no "Mom, he's breathing my air" like Elder Bednar's talk...) :)
Awesome! What a fun husband you have!
ReplyDeleteLara, you would have loved the pillar of fire episode...he used his new flashlight shining down from heaven on an army guy (Lehi). It was real classy!
ReplyDeleteI liked how Lehi and Sariah were well matched. Also how genetics worked so well for the boys. Even Laban was dressed appropriately. Good job Steve!
ReplyDeleteThis was AWESOME for a FHE lesson. I might steal the idea myself for next week...although we are sadly lacking the army guys and storm troopers department.
ReplyDeleteAwesome!!
ReplyDeleteThat just made me smile real big! Hooray for good daddies!
ReplyDeleteThat looks like one of my husband's lessons. He used Thomas the Train to represent President Monson. He went along the track taking messages from Heavenly Father to the people. :)
ReplyDeleteI love it! Seems like FHEs I remember growing up. :)
ReplyDeleteThat is fantastic! What a fun idea:)
ReplyDeleteThis is priceless and I'm sure effective. I know it would have been at our house.
ReplyDeleteWe had wild word of wisdom role play last night.
Yes, you do! And yours seems particularly good!!
ReplyDelete=)
Okay that made me smile. I love that Sariah looks like a princess and that Laban is and evil Storm Trooper. Sooo cute.
ReplyDeleteI guess when you are romping around in the desert and you're the only woman for 100s of miles...you get to be a princess!
ReplyDeleteI know you can't get any better...awesome DAD!
ReplyDeletehow creative and fun for everyone in your family....
ReplyDeleteHow much do you love that husband of yours? I am guessing A LOT!! yay for great daddies!!!
ReplyDeleteAnd thank you for that sweet comment about my art!
:)
hahaha I love this! I think my husband is also more creative than I am when doing FHE, a few weeks ago we talked about the iron rod, and he dressed up the kids and everything, he grabbed a blanket and put it over his head, and a rope on his waist (he was Lehi) then he tied a rope all over the house (that was the iron rod) and explained to the kids about it, they (we) had so much fun!
ReplyDeleteOh, love it. Not only is he creative, he made it fun too!! Sometimes, the fun counts extra points!!
ReplyDeleteThat is hysterical! I'll bet the kids remember the stories so much better, since it was their toys he was using.
ReplyDeleteSeriously, so funny!
Funny! I love how Sariah is like twice the size of everyone else....woman are spiritual giantsin the scriptures....is that what your husband was going for? :)
ReplyDeleteHahaha! Yes! That's so awesomely cool!
ReplyDeleteHa ha that is so fun! Sounds like something my hubby would do.
