Everything I want my children to know before they start school
Lesson 10
"Keep your mind and body clean."
I was reminded on Sunday during our Relief Society lesson just how much nasty material we adults down to even the youngest members of our society are exposed to on a daily basis...in our homes, through the internet, even at school. Frankly, it worries me.
But I have faith in my children's ability to live happy, smut-free lives, because the Lord has given us tools and guidelines to help us avoid and safeguard ourselves from the temptations that will surely come our way through media, friends, and even authority figures.
While ideally I would protect my children from every evil influence in the world today, I have come to terms with the fact that this is their world. This is their time. And they must learn to navigate it starting at a very young age, so that they can affect and influence their world, instead of being influenced by it.

For FHE this week, we are going to review the advice given by Elder Holland in his General Conference talk from last Spring called "Place No More for the Enemy of My Soul".

Wheat Play
This is our wheat play time. This coming winter, I plan to fill a water/splash table up with wheat and use it like an indoor-sandbox.
love your continuing creative ideas and encouragement for young mothers to not despair but step up to the plate with the challenges of today...and raising children.

ReplyDeleteWe had that lesson too. It was a good reminder that we need to be so aware of what we expose our kids to and what we are teaching them.
ReplyDeleteMy kids love playing with wheat kernels. I love your encouraging words and life lessons. You truly are inspiring!
ReplyDeleteTwo suggestions for the wheat:
ReplyDelete1. Use a small -5'- plastic swimming pool to put the wheat in to play. No clean up.
2. Put down a kingsized sheet and pour out the wheat like a sandpile. To clean up, lift the corners.
