I loved listening to President Monson last night talking about reading his favorite Christmas stories each year! You can imagine how I'd feel a kinship to his message! :)
Today, for our Christmas book reading, we read a wordless book called "A Small Miracle" by Peter Collington. I reviewed this book last year and you can read lots more about it here. Last year, the book was out of print, but it came back out in paperback this year, which is great news. This is a beautiful book with a beautiful message.
An old woman who has no food or money goes out to play her accordion on the streets in the hopes of earning a few dollars, so she can eat. When she receives no tips from passersby, she pawns her beloved instrument for cash, but is robbed on the way home. Although she has nothing left in the world, she stops to pay kindness to the smallest among us, and that is when a small miracle and a bit of amazing magic occurs.
I talked with my children about the gift that this woman gave to the Christ child by serving others. And we decided to take today to ponder what gifts we'd like to give to the Christ-child this year.
At family home evening tonight, we will all declare the gift we'd like to present to Christ this Christmas by writing it on the back of our chalkboard ornaments. I saw these ornaments at A Lemon Squeezy Home and just had to make some for our family! I love people who share good ideas! Thanks, Christie!
Good planning and be ready! You've got the the organization and inspiration to make it work just right for your family!
