In today's story The Crippled Lamb, we meet Joshua, a lamb born with one defunct leg.
Because he cannot run and jump like the other sheep. Because of this he is often left behind.
And this makes Joshua sad.
His dear friend, a cow named Abigail, assures him that,
"God has a special place for those who feel left out."
When the rest of the herd is taken to find food in another meadow, Joshua is told to stay in the stable, because he is just too slow to make the long trip.
This reminder of his inadequacies once again causes Joshua sorrow.
He and Abigail return to the stable to eat.
Before they fall asleep, Abigail reminds him again,
"Don't be sad, little Joshua. God has a special place for those who feel left out."
Joshua and Abigail awake to find visitors in their stable--a mother and her newborn infant.
Of course, this baby is none other than the Christ child.
Jesus is cold, but the shepherds have taken all of the blankets on their trip.
Joshua settles in next to the baby to keep him warm with his fur.
When the shepherds return, they are amazed to see Joshua in such an esteemed position--warming the King of Kings.
And finally, Joshua sees that Jesus really does have a special place for him,
as he does for each of us.

Amazing. Wonderful book.
My little lambs loved it too.
Here is a link to the lambs that we made today.
