Telling the Story of Easter with Jelly Beans

My mom gave us this book a few years ago.  It's a sturdy and sparkly little board book called My Easter Basket by Mary Manz Simon.  My Easter Basket teaches children the Easter story through the colors found in their Easter baskets.  As you can see, my kids were pretty happy about today's craft!  (This expression is called "One more picture and I'll let you eat your treats!)  I found the idea for this craft/treat here.

Here's what you'll need to make these miniature baskets:

Ice cream cones

Multi-colored twizzlers

Jelly beans in the following colors:

green, purple, red, white, brown, yellow*

*You can substitute the colors you are missing with a brown cone, etc.

Here's what the colors stand for:

green:  palm leaves

purple:  wine

red:  Jesus died for us because he loves us

brown:  the tomb

white:  the angel who announced "He is risen!"

yellow:  the bright son that reminds us what God has done

To make these I basically just bend the licorice in half and tuck it into the cone.

Then fill it with jelly beans.  You can also cut small holes in the sides and poke the licorice through.
