My how we've grown...

OK, can we take just a minute to observe how big my kids are getting???

When I started this blog (in 2008), Guy was 2.5, Scarlett was 1, and Autumn was still in the womb.

Now Guy is 10, Scarlett is 8.5, Autumn is 7, and Honor is a new Sunbeam!

And we are all anxiously awaiting the arrival of a new baby...whose gender we decided not to find out.  So we wait...and grow!

We switched the children's rooms around a bit to make room for baby.  Poor Autumn got stuck with a very talkative 3 year old roommate...and she's really sleep-deprived because of it.

When Christmas break was finally over, Autumn did not want to go to school. I felt her pain.  So that morning, we did something we like to do when we're in need of motivation...we made a paper chain to help us count down to the birth of the baby (and remind us of other fun things to look forward to in the winter of 2016!)

It seemed to help a bit...although crafting with Mama always perks her right up.

My belly is feeling ridiculously big this time and I have a lot of pain when I walk...so obviously that is limiting what I can accomplish on any given day...but I just keep trucking along and try to do the most important things first.

One of those important things (though we have a few months to figure it out) is coming up with a name for the new baby...which is always fun when you don't know the gender.

So far, we've come up with the name "Dude."  Good job, guys.

I like picking family names and/or names with some sort of significance to us, however, at this point, I'm open to suggestions.  Maybe you guys can spark an idea in my idea-less head! :)

My last little item of randomness for this post is that we had family home evening this week and used the Book of Mormon Hero card of Nephi that was in the January 2016 Friend.  We also did a puppet show of the play included on page (see it here) about children who decide to help their mother clean up the house while she is out running errands.  (Chuckling here...)  Prediction, every FHE from here on out will be about doing something to help Mommy!  Ha!

Also of note...I actually made an FHE treat...which I never do because I'm just not that on top of things...Chocolate covered frozen bananas with nuts.  This kids were thrilled.

It's the little things!

  1. beautiful...except til the end...the frozen bananas. I remember going to some RM/friend of Dad's,newly married, and they served baked bananas...just as horrible. Guess I've never been a banana fan. Good thing you make them fun. I still like Cordelia...and Claudia and Natalie. Can't think of boy names...I guess because i only had one chance to a son. all these left over girl names that Dad didn't use are left for me to name my dolls and fairies.

    3. I agree that Cordelia is a good name. It is the name that Anne of Green Gables names her imaginary self. You know, the one with the nut brown hair? Love that book! Whatever you have, that little baby will be as beautiful as the rest of your children AND blessed to come to your home. Thanks for another great post, friend.

  2. I have been following your blog for some time now and appreciate your insight in bringing the gospel to the lives of our children. We just got the Friend and am excited about the prophet cards. I have some what similar aged children as you-10 year old boy, 8.5 girl, 6 boy, 4 boy, and 2.5 girl. We are considering the addition of another, and I am curious how it has been for you to go from having children close in age to more spaced out. It's different to be completely out of diapers and then start over with a newborn again.

    1. Thanks for your comment, Amber! Yes, we do have children of very similar ages. I so enjoyed having them close together because it made it so easy to plan our family activities. I can see that is going to change. As it is Honor is 4 years younger than my first three...however, it's fun having children who can help with the baby, helper her potty train, read to her, etc. It definitely has changed our family...made it more fun! And my youngest also acts more grown up because she is trying to keep up with all the happenings with the slightly older children. It's all good. And it'll all work out if you decide to have another. Let's not forget how difficult it was when they were all tiny!!! There are fun benefits to both ways! XO, thanks again!

  3. Seeing pictures of your children brings back such sweet memories of our five. They were all home for Christmas this year and we had a fabulous time together. I recently found the name Judianna, and thought it a beautiful name. Maybe it will fit in your family. I like the "old-fashioned" male names, especially those from the Scriptures. Perhaps there is a favorite scripture hero your family would like to name a boy after.

  4. This is more to hopefully give you a chuckle than as an actual suggestion, but our son and his wife are expecting a baby as well, although they know it's their 3rd boy. When we asked if they had chosen a name, they said right now he's known as "Cletus the Fetus." Our response was a reluctant Oh-Kay. However, that very week we came across the name "Cleda" (female) when doing some family history research. Maybe Cletus is a real possibility!! (I hope they stick with something like "Adam" which was their original first choice for their second son, who ended up being Samuel. I, too, like Biblical names.)

  5. So happy for your new little one who is expected to join your family. Sometimes you have to see the child to know their name and definitely their sex. My last baby was my only sonogram and after 3 sons, I wanted a girl but knew it was a boy in spite of the sonogram results...lol! Here's some Hatch family names: Robert, Orin,Wm Ira, John and girls names: Charlotte, Margaret, Marthy, Britta, Catherine, Jane and Maria or Marion. How fun....take care of yourself.
