Because I'm Pretty Sure We Need Each Other

I had the opportunity to connect with some real live girlfriends of mine tonight at our annual Christmas gift exchange.  We laughed, ate, opened presents, and "ooh-ed" and "aah-ed" at the many thoughtful, handmade items that appeared from one box after another.

My secret sister very generously shared her amazing talent for knitting with me.
I received knitted, fingerless gloves, a beautiful ear-warmer headband, a special Christmas countdown, chocolate (of course), extravagant soaps that smell good enough to eat, stuff from her hometown, Christmas ornaments, a book of Maya Angelou poetry, a Christmas scrapbook, personalized stationery, and a decorated notebook for collecting good thoughts.

All of this was supposed to come out of a $15 spending limit with as many handmade, recycled, or upcycled gifts as possible.  The process leading up to this event is always neat as we all scramble to help each other make or find the appropriate gifts for our secret sisters.

Kudos and many thank yous to Marie, the event organizer, who gives so much of her time to making this event happen each year, for women like us who sometimes just need to be together, just laughing and having fun, rejoicing in our common roles as women, as wives, as mothers, and as friends!

  3. So true, girls do need girl friends!

I had my annual cookie exchange last night, with new friends (moved to Utah from Canada last December) and although it was different as I don't have the years of background with them, it is just so nice to have 10 women laughing and giggling around a table of food with Christmas music in the background!

  4. What a wonderful way to connect with other women. I'm filing this one away in my list of ideas.
