Angels to Watch Over Us by President Erying

Last night, during FHE, we talked about President Monson's teachings about adversity and how trials help us to grow into the people the Lord wants us to become.

This morning, we moved on to President Eyring's message from General Conference.

In his talk "To My Grandchildren," President Henry B. Eyring taught that God has prepared you and me and our children for the tests that we will face.

Quoting George Q. Cannon, he said, "“There is not one of us but what God’s love has been expended upon. There is not one of us that He has not cared for and caressed. There is not one of us that He has not desired to save, and that He has not devised means to save. There is not one of us that He has not given His angels charge concerning. We may be insignificant and contemptible in our own eyes, and in the eyes of others, but the truth remains that we are the children of God, and that He has actually given His angels—invisible beings of power and might—charge concerning us, and they watch over us and have us in their keeping.”2
What President Cannon taught is true. You will need that assurance, as I have needed it and depended on it.
I have prayed with faith that someone I loved would seek and feel the power of the Atonement. I have prayed with faith that human angels would come to their aid, and they came.
Isn't it reassuring to know that God has given angels charge to watch over each one of us?

The idea of "guardian angels" isn't all that far-fetched when you hear it put this way, and this part of his talk really spoke to my little girl heart, as I know that over the years, especially during the very difficult moments, and probably every day, I have received help and strength beyond my own...from both seen and unseen sources.

But what I like even more now, as I study this passage again, is the truth that there isn't anyone who is out of God's reach or the reach of Christ's Atonement.  No one was sent to earth to fail.  There wasn't one of us who God said, 'Yeah, that's a lost cause.'  There is a path back for each and every one of us, and He has gone to extraordinary measures to extend that option to us...even so far as to assign unseen beings to help mentor us along.  Amazing!

And to know that, even if we do not love ourselves enough...even if we see ourselves as insignificant or even contemptible...He does not see us this way.  He loves us.

This is blessed knowledge that every child needs to hear...and every child of God.

I love the words of the prophets.

You can probably easily see how we made these handprint angels.  Wings first, then the body, and paint on the head however you'd like.
