A Christmas Communique'

The Christmas spirit is alive and well over here at our house!

Just last night at dinner, Guy decided--all on his own--to write this letter to Santa, the contents of which are pretty atypical of a letter written by a recently-turned seven-year-old!

But that's Guy...so special and very mature.

Guy posted his letter on our tree last night and received a response from Santa this morning.

Santa said, "Good boys like you are the reason I do this...and because I love Jesus just like you."  He also let Guy know that, contrary to what the teachers have been telling him at school, Santa really does prefer cookies to carrots.

  4. Want to share with my nephew and his wife - who are not telling there 3 year old about Santa- as it knowing about him, harmed them? Really? So annoying. Not going to work anyway. Wait till she is in pre-school or Kindergarten- that will all disappear!

  5. I like the letters back and forth from Santa via the tree! Nice.

I've never been really into Santa (probably b/c of a family history without much of him), but I just might leave him a note on the tree this year....

    1. Writing to Santa is something I never really did as a kid, but my kids are big writers, I guess because I am a writer! Anyway, this is all them...their idea, everything. It's fun to see Santa answering their questions in ways that are magical and yet nothing but truthful...bringing us all a little closer to understanding the marvelous mystery of Santa!

  7. So precious. Our Santa loves Jesus too, and that's why he does what he does, because that's what Jesus would do if He were here (kind of). We decided this year that Santa only fills stockings and gives one handmade gift that helps the kids remember Jesus.
Oh yeah, and our Santa likes Eggnog with his cookies. :)

    1. It was always my understanding that Santa believed...Ultimately we are all following Christ's example when we do anything to help or show love for others. I never thought of Santa in any other way...the letters keep coming from my kids to Santa...Last night the question was asked "How many elves do you have?" Santa replied, "I have many, many elves helping me do my work, all over the world. They use machines and magic, but mostly love to get the job done."

    1. Steve, did you see that I now have a nephew named "Cedar Jedi???" See my last post...I'm thinking you've already got that name on your future baby names list! ;)

  9. I love this!!! Moments like these make motherhood so wonderful.

I've tried hard to make Christmas truly Christ-centered in our home. We have a tradition where Santa comes (usually about 2 weeks - 10 days before Christmas) and leaves a present on our door. It is usually a Nativity - either set or nativity-centered ornament, with a note reminding our family that the real reason we celebrate Christmas is to celebrate Christ. It has helped my kids to know what Christmas really is all about.

Thanks for sharing this cute letter!!!
