A Dish Solution

Dear Children:

I love you, but I don't love that we dirty up about 20 sets of dishes each...every day.

So here are your new dishes.

You each get your own color.

You use it.

You clean it.

You dry it.

You put it away.

And since you love to play in soapy water...we'll all be happy.

Love,
Mom

PS - Thanks to Sophia for the inspiration...from a few summers ago!

  9. Love it!!! I have 6 kiddos and feel like I do dishes and laundry ALL day. This would help one of the problems :)

  10. And that is why I etched all of our cups (we use glass, not plastic)! Each person has their own glass and nothing else. Cups were our biggest problem, now they are not.

Fun colors you chose for your kids!

  12. I have thought about doing this but our kids were so little. I think they are getting old enough for this... hmm...

  13. ha ha, next just buy them two complete sets of clothing and one set of pajamas, and have the same deal. Every morning you put your clothes in the washer from the previous day including pajamas. Ba ha ha :) kind of kidding... but now that I think about it...

  14. I've thought about doing something similar for our family.  But it just involved putting most of our dishes in the garage.  If I have service for twenty, I'll wait until they are all dirty before doing the dishes.  If I only have service for 4, I have to do the dishes every day!

  15. We color code all sorts of things in our house.  Toothbrushes, hairbrushes, ADHD medication, towels, coats, mittens, backpacks, blankets & swimsuits.  If I cannot buy it in a color, I put colored tape, nail polish or one of those Target store prescription-bottle colored rings on it.  Saves a lot of aggravation to know exactly whose misplaced thing that is; AND there's absolutely no fighting over "That's Mine".

  17. Man! I wish I could make that work.  Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure the teens would just start buying thier own paper plates to leave dirty on the countertops for me to throw away.

  18. ha ha!  Sounds about right! So far, my kids think this is awesome!

  19. Great idea!  I'll have to keep this in mind so dishes don't drive me crazy in a few years, when I've got a sink full from crazy kiddies.

  20. I have the same problem  and I think I'm going to adopt your solution.  When my Mom comes to town, she takes it upon herself to do all my dishes (I LOVE you Mom) so she makes all the kids...AND adults pick a  cup that she has picked up from the $1 store and use it exclusively while she's there.  Their all different colors/designs.   She washes them at night and we use it again the next day. :)

  21. I've been wanting to do this forever, maybe now I actually will!

  22. My problem is three of the five kids always fight over the green color. *sigh*

  23. I am so behind!  We just moved from Las Vegas to Iowa for hubby's work and haven't had time in a month to check out blogs.  It's actually been pretty great in some ways!=) But this is such a wonderful idea!  I love it! We are also in the "mission field" out here and will be using a lot of your ideas to get us motivated.

  24. Ha!  It always cracks me up when people call it that "mission field"...I've never lived anywhere else. :)  The world is your mission field...Good luck in Iowa!  I hope everything went smoothly with the move!!
