The Easter Scroll by Renae

There are three things I remember most about Easter growing up.  The first is decorating easter eggs, and the second is the beloved easter egg hunt.  The third thing I remember and feel that made it Easter for me was having our family gathered around and my dad reading the Easter story to us, using a beautiful, big artwork scroll telling the story.  It was a special time hearing my dad talk about Christ, feeling the spirit testify to my spirit of it's truth, and seeing the beautiful artwork portraying our Savior's sacrifice and resurrection.  I know he knew it and it strengthened my testimony.

We did those three things each year, and I even asked my parents to give me the artwork scroll in their will. :)  I've carried these traditions on with my family now, minus the beautiful pictures, and added some new ones ( see J's resurrection rolls).  It can be difficult to get small children to listen, but if my parents could do it with 7 kids, we can do it with 2.  Our hope is that our kids will know that we know the Christ lived, he sacrificed and suffered for our sins, that if we repent and live righteously, we can live with Him again.

The best part of holidays are family traditions!

Thank you so much Renae!

I was unable to acquire the "scroll photos" that Renae referenced in her post, but Cocoa of Chocolate on my Cranium posted an awesome Easter Countdown yesterday using photos of Christ in a similar way. Her Easter countdown follows the teachings of The Living Christ and it's in the form of an Easter tree with tags/ornaments that you read each day.

  5. I mostly remember coloring Easter eggs-and that my dad's were always the best. The rest of us would just go at it haphazardly and quickly, but he would take his time and make really beautiful eggs.
