What It Takes To Make a Great FHE

I guess Elder Bednar was right when he suggested that to make a great Family Home Evening, you don't really need any fancy pre-produced lesson print-outs.  You just need to bear testimony...and it helps to know the scriptures and have an active imagination.

My husband sure proved this last night.

Our original plan for FHE didn't work out, so in a matter of minutes I watched him discretely gathering items from around the room that you see displayed here.  He proceeded to put on a "play" of first Nephi for us.  It produced quite a few belly laughs and the kids were just eating it up.  I restrained myself from running to get my camera as long as I possibly could, and then I just couldn't take it any longer.  I just had to take some pictures and share them with you.

So enjoy!

You've just gotta love good Daddies!

(No, this post does not count as your five pages for today...Nice try.  Now go read!)

  3. One disclaimer: I guess we should've used our Book of Mormon paper dolls, but it happened so quickly that he just used toys that were on the floor around us! Next time...

  5. Ahhh, the classic "Dog for dinner" move...gotta love it! :)

I love having big boys as Dad's...they really know how to make learning fun. AND your kids will remember the lesson they learned from FHE. (hope there was no "Mom, he's breathing my air" like Elder Bednar's talk...) :)

  7. Lara, you would have loved the pillar of fire episode...he used his new flashlight shining down from heaven on an army guy (Lehi). It was real classy!

  8. I liked how Lehi and Sariah were well matched. Also how genetics worked so well for the boys. Even Laban was dressed appropriately. Good job Steve!

  9. This was AWESOME for a FHE lesson. I might steal the idea myself for next week...although we are sadly lacking the army guys and storm troopers department.

  11. That looks like one of my husband's lessons. He used Thomas the Train to represent President Monson. He went along the track taking messages from Heavenly Father to the people. :)

  21. hahaha I love this! I think my husband is also more creative than I am when doing FHE, a few weeks ago we talked about the iron rod, and he dressed up the kids and everything, he grabbed a blanket and put it over his head, and a rope on his waist (he was Lehi) then he tied a rope all over the house (that was the iron rod) and explained to the kids about it, they (we) had so much fun!

  23. That is hysterical! I'll bet the kids remember the stories so much better, since it was their toys he was using.

    Seriously, so funny!
