Halloween: I'm not ignoring you, I'm just sick of you!

It's official.

I am the Grinch who stole Halloween.

Confession:  I took all of our Halloween decor down two days ago.

Now before you pass judgment, keep this in mind:  We have been in Halloween-mode around my house since THE FOURTH OF JULY.

No.  I am not joking.

Remember when my kids brought out the 4th of July decorations on St. Pattie's Day?  Well, they caught a full-blown case of Halloween Fever on Independence Day.  We have been drawing ghosts, crafting spooky crafts, telling scary bedtime stories, eating creepy meals by candlelight (We've really enjoyed those!), trying on various costumes, watching the Halloween cartoons, drawing sidewalk chalk graveyards, reading favorite Halloween poems, chanting spooky rhymes, and "BOO-ing" (loudly) in each other's faces since mid-summer.

So far this month we have been to two Halloween parties, visited two pumpkin patches, gone on three hay rides, eaten one bag of candy corn, and carved eight pumpkins (three of which we actually grew ourselves).

And we've still got TWO Halloween parties, a Halloween Parade, and a TRUNK-r-TREAT coming our way this weekend.

So, I ask you...Can you blame me for wanting to lay this holiday to rest???

It's been a lot of fun...but R.I.P. Halloween 2010!

PS - Just when I was feeling my Grinchiest, my visiting teachers from church showed up with this temple-themed treat.  And I could feel my black heart growing three sizes...or maybe that was just my waistline...

PPS - I forgot to mention...Guy wants a "spooky Halloween birthday party" next month.

  1. I don't blame you. I already want to take down my lone, sorry little streamer. If my kids ask me to put on their costumes one more time...

  2. Its so nice to have kids at home...they bring out the joy within us. Also check a blog I have on my blogroll called "Mom To 3". She is LDS and she has a great way of enjoying a FHE Halloween style. She's very creative like you. Hugs!

  3. I don't blame you at all. I hadn't put my spider on the porch yet and the kids were begging, so we went to do it last night and it turned into to much of a chore. I figured what was the point we will just be taking it down in 4 days and so it never got hung.

  4. I have a friend with a son that is Halloween obsessed! And has been for a few years. He loves everything to do with Halloween. Plays Halloween all the time (and does not get why his friends don't want to play Halloween with him all the time). Has had Halloween birthday parties in March and even finally convinced his mother to decorate his bedroom in a Halloween theme.

  5. I did used to enjoy Halloween a lot, but I had to pass an edict that said "No Halloweening until October 1st." I did the same thing with Christmas.

    It saved me!

  6. So funny. I was actually thinking how sad I am going to be to take it all down. I always immediately want to put up Christmas decorations just so my house doesn't look so plain again;) Oh--and the fact that now I'm going to have to dust.

  7. I don't even blame you! I haven't even had Halloween fever and I'm okay with the holiday being over. Which probably means I'm even more Grinchy and small-black-hearted than you... but that treat from your visiting teachers is SO cute. I might have to make some myself and go visit my sisters again. :)

  9. Since when is "moderation in all things" to be considered "Grinchiness"? And here I am stressing about about planning how to decorate a church classroom for our ward Halloween party...

  11. ooh, the poor goblins at your house!! come on over here! my kids used to dress up and practice by knocking on the bedroom doors. I guess they weren't obsessed for months on end. But it was a sweet memory. Sunday, I finished the Pikachu costume for Evan and he wanted to show it off to a friend down the street. I consented...and the next thing I knew...Pikachu was riding a bike down the street. It was halarious!! And, I was happy that I came up with such a fabulous costume! haha.

  12. I am still laughing. Kids are great. I have a daughter with her birthday the day before Halloween, so sometimes I think that particular holiday lasts for nearly a year. All my girls are dancers this year. We have overwhelmed ourselves by making several tutu's. Mikayla even made tutu "bracelets". Live is fun. This too shall pass.
