Homemade Bubble Gum: 4th of July Edition

My friend Elizabeth over at Twelve Crafts Till Christmas showed us how to make homemade gum, so I ordered some gum pellets and decided to give it a whirl.

Here is our first attempt:  We used cherry koolaid and Mug root beer as flavoring, aiming for sort of a "cherry root beer" gum.  We experimented with red and blue coloring, because I'm gearing up for our 4th of July parade and thought this might be a fun treat to pass out to spectators.  All-in-all, it was fairly sticky and messy, but the kids really enjoyed making the gum.  I hope they'll enjoy going to the dentist just as much, because that is where we are off to today.

If you'd like to make gum too, head on over here to learn how.

Also, I continue to be amazed with how great the turn-out has been in our latest Service Boot Camp.
Our pledge-count is up to 191 journals for The Write It Out Project.
Thanks again for serving with us!

  1. fun idea, interesting how so much revolves around sugar with our kiddos....then comes the dentist.

  2. I just came over to admit that I am the rudest blogger ever. I haven't been by to reply to your comments about the service project! I really do believe in service! :) At first I was all excited about making some cute journals, and then...my sewing machine broke. I'm depressed about it for many reasons. How long is the project going on? Also, cute gum!
